Crystal Growth

We use the Czochralski method to economically produce silicon and germanium that is guaranteed to be at least 99.999% pure. The following materials are commonly available:

Silicon growth capabilities

  • Up to 14" polysilicon, 11" single crystal
  • <100> and <111> orientations
  • N-type and P-type
  • Undoped intrinsic ingots
  • Resisitivity of .001 to greater than 50 ohm-cm

Germanium growth capabilities

  • Up to 4" diameter, single or polycrystalline
  • <111> orientation
  • N-type or intrinsic
  • Resistivity of 1 to 50 Ohm-cm
Slicing

The extremely brittle nature of silicon presents unique slicing and machining challenges to our process technology. Our engineers have spent over a decade on process analysis, development and perfection. As a result, Lattice Materials routinely supplies high quality blanks with a surface finish that is unparalleled in the industry.

Many of our orders are shipped "as-cut" to allow you to polish and coat the parts in your facility. Because of our emphasis on quality, your blanks will be ready for immediate use with essentially no incoming inspection required.

Curve Generation

Your orders for spherically curved lenses are fabricated on high precision curve generators. We create a variety of shapes from basic meniscus and truncated curves to full hemispherical domes.

For fast response on your orders, we maintain a large inventory of tooling to shape virtually any spherical curve.

Strict quality controls are utilized in all departments, guaranteeing your parts will meet or exceed all specifications.

Curve generating capabilities are:

  • Diameter 0.250" to 12.0"
  • Sag error less than 0.002"
  • ETV less than 0.003" typical, less than 0.001" when required
CNC

The machining of complex parts is a specialty here at Lattice Materials. Our computer numeric controlled work centers allow us total flexibility in the machining of many substrates, especially silicon and germanium. Intricate shapes are manufactured on our vertical milling machines, which are designed for complex contour milling and high speed stock removal. Tolerances of less than 0.001" can be maintained in certain applications, with surface finish as low as 16 microns.

Provide us with a part print and/or dimensional tolerances to allow us to quote your special machining requirements. AutoCAD drawings may be sent via email for even faster quotes to marketing@latticematerials.com.

Polishing

A variety of surface finishes are available using state of the art lapping, polishing and cleaning equipment. We have shipped hundreds of thousands of polished parts world wide and we can economically engineer the perfect combination of abrasives, slurries, pressures, and speeds to guarantee your company's success.

Both single and double sided lapping and polishing are available. Typical polish specifications include:

  • Diameter up to 12"
  • Scratch/Dig 80/50
  • Flatness better than 2 waves, depending on part dimensions
  • Surface Roughness less than 10Å rms
